Eptam Precision Solutions, a supplier of contract services to the medical device sector, has acquired Sterling Manufacturing and its wholly owned subsidiary, Albright Silicone. Headquartered in Lancaster, MA, Sterling is specialized in plastic and liquid silicone rubber injection molding for the medical device, life sciences, consumer electronics, and aerospace and defense markets.

The transaction further bolsters Eptam’s presence in the life sciences, biopharma, and broader medical device market, and expands and diversifies its capabilities in plastics processing, said the news release. Moreover, Albright brings expertise in silicone injection tooling fabrication and molding, said Eptam. The combined molding expertise of Sterling and Albright, located in proximity to each other, will allow Eptam to serve as a one-stop shop for medical customers requiring both thermoplastic and LSR injection molded components.

Founded in 1981 and acquired by private equity firm Frazier Healthcare Partners in January 2020, Eptam is an outsourced manufacturer of medical device components, implants, single-use medical disposables, bio-pharma, and diagnostic devices, as well as other high-precision surgical device components. The company’s capabilities encompass polymer machining, precision metal machining, injection molding, and laser cutting and welding. Metal injection molding will be added to the portfolio later this year. A range of value-added services are also available, including process validation, design for assembly, cleanroom assembly, and rapid prototyping. Eptam has more than 500 employees with operations in New Hampshire, where it is headquartered in Northfield; Colorado; New Jersey; Minnesota; Connecticut; and Michigan.

“By welcoming the professionals from Sterling and Albright to our team, Eptam adds world-class, highly automated thermoplastic and liquid silicone rubber injection molding expertise,” said Eptam CEO Mark Kemp. The acquisition also expands front-end engineering support, said Kemp, adding that Epson will benefit from “Sterling’s proximity to many of the leading molecular diagnostic and bio-pharma OEMs located in the greater New England area.”
