Natech Adds Laser Welding to Service Portfolio for Medical Device OEMs

Natech, a supplier of design, engineering, injection molding, assembly, filling and sealing, and packaging services to medical device and diagnostics OEMs, reports that it has added a new laser welder to its shop floor.

Laser welding has become a top choice for joining plastics because of its speed, productivity, and high level of control, said Natech. The process is also highly accurate, suited for welding small parts without causing damage, and produces more repeatable, consistent, and stronger weld seams than other methods.

The addition of laser welding will benefit clients with more complex requirements and allow working on smaller parts and adapting to different project phases and quantities, said Natech.

Welding contours can be programmed in the CNC code; other parameters, such as laser output and speed, can be easily specified. Once set up, the system runs on its own.

Despite the small processing cell, the welding surface, or traverse path, measures 100 x 100 mm. The fully integrated system has a maximum traverse speed of 200 mm/sec, a maximum clamping force of 2350 N, and a maximum clamping stroke of 20 mm.

Located in Ronkonkoma, NY, Natech is a contract development and manufacturing firm offering end-to-end services for clients in the medical device and diagnostics markets. Quality systems are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. The FDA-registered facility is equipped with an ISO Class 8 cleanroom.
