Davis-Standard Launches New Extrusion Systems
Davis-Standard recently introduced two new extrusion systems — a compact extruder (CHP) for extrusion coating applications and a super-high-output (SHO) system with upgraded groove-feed technology.
The small footprint and light weight of the CHP (pictured above) allows for easier addition to an existing carriage or platform structure, said Davis-Standard. This provides processors with a space-saving replacement or co-extrusion addition for increasing outputs and line speed.
“The CHP is built for exceptional performance with improved transition times and significantly higher processing rates than conventional extruders,” said Danis Roy, Vice President – Sales, Films & Flexible Packaging.
Available in sizes ranging from 2 to 4 in. (50 to 100 mm), the CHP features efficient mixing that delivers low pressure and melt temperature variability at output rates up to 80 to 100% higher than current extruder options, according to Davis-Standard. Reduced 3:1 residence time and a faster purge between resins and colors supports quick changeovers. Trial runs and process validation can be done on the extruder at Davis-Standard’s facility in Pawcatuck, CT.
The new SHO extruder with groove-feed technology combines a space-saving design that delivers up to 20% higher outputs than existing groove-feed models. The SHO’s optimized feed section and energy-efficient DSB barrier screw are especially beneficial for high-viscosity, high-density polyethylene applications such as pipe extrusions, where lower melt temperatures, reduced power consumption, and improved energy efficiency are paramount, said Davis-Standard.

“Improving energy efficiency equates to tangible savings for your operation while reducing your carbon footprint,” said John Christiano, VP Technology. “The SHO builds upon our existing groove-feed technology with a more streamlined, compact footprint and even greater performance in terms of output and energy savings.”
The SHO includes Davis-Standard’s next-generation gear case to optimize production space along with a streamlined hopper, low-profile power panel, and rugged base. It is available in sizes ranging from 2 to 6 in. (50 to 150 mm) with an L/D of 42:1.
