The train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, carrying vinyl chloride monomer, a PVC feedstock, has dominated national headlines this week as the EPA and other officials have stepped in to continue testing.

The move comes just weeks after Steve Toloken’s report of the EPA’s decision not to regulate PVC as a hazardous substance. The derailment has put the debate back into the spotlight and onto our front page, as well as ongoing coverage of the derailment from Frank Esposito.

Elsewhere in the issue, Sarah Kominek tackles Plastics in Health Care as medical suppliers continue to keep up with demand and changing markets.

On a global scale, large companies are now urging the Biden Administration to end mold tariffs from China.

German plastics and rubber magazine publisher Gupta Verlag has closed its doors.

We’ve also announced the finalists for our 2023 CFO of the Year.

We’re technically off today for President’s Day, but you can read Friday’s Kickstart.
